If the PC will run with higher speed memory (PC3-12800 or PC3-14900) does it have to be the low voltage type i.e. Presumably the Crucial memory will not run at the higher design speed but will be limited to PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333) speeds? Why would HP limit the memory to 8GB when the CPU and chipset can handle more and can the 2 x 4GB limit be safely exceeded to perhaps 2 x 8GB?

However, it does have problems with the fan, which is always running at high speed so perhaps I should update the BIOS to resolve that issue.As the BIOS update Windows installer utility was found in the Win 7 section of the HP website it presumably is/was intended for use with a Win 7 OS. The PC doesn't have an Nvidia graphics card, it uses the onboard Intel HD Graphic device. There was only one update available d ate of 03/10/12 Revision 7.11 Rev.A, which addresses the following:- Resolves issue with brightness function.- Resolves issue with NVIDIA 520M and 540M graphics cards.- Resolves issue with processor temperature and fan when resuming from sleep mode.I haven't noticed a problem with the brightness function but that could have been resolved when the OS was change from Win 7 to Win 10, before I got the PC. The latter not currently installed since clean install of OS and upgrade to 64bit operation.I managed to find the BIOS update on the HP website by manually changing the OS to Win 7. It's mainly used for internet browsing, email and MS office including drawings using Visio.
